The Coaching Multiverse

The human spirit as a shared signal

The human spirit as a shared signal

Whenever someone who was legendary in their field passes away, we see so many paying rich tributes to them and celebrating their character strengths and unique abilities and traits.

Be it Piyush Pandey, Ratan Tata, Biki Oberoi, Ameen Sayani, Dr Manmohan Singh, Fali Nariman, or SPB, they were all and will always be adored and celebrated for their enduring qualities and abilities.

In times like this, my wife and I often ask ourselves one existential and spiritual question.

When such legendary individuals pass away, what happens to their legendary qualities or spirit. What happens to the humour, the authenticity, the excellence, the care, the humility, the integrity, the innovation, the brilliance? Do they also pass away and disappear?

No, not at all we realise. These qualities continue to evoke emotion, spark memories, and inspire and influence new generations and keep echoing for ages. They leave a mark on other people; on the institutions and professions they touched. Their stories continue to inspire several others and get passed on like a flame.

Even if we can’t physically locate “where” the spirit of such people went, we feel its presence. In the laughter, the warmth, the excellence, the creativity, the care that we witnessed or experienced.

That is perhaps why it is called the human spirit. The spirit is not bound by the body and lives on in ways we don’t fully understand.

I would like to describe this human spirt as a universal energy, a shared signal. Like an invisible and powerful Wi-Fi network. This universal energy or Wi-Fi network has been carrying all these great qualities and abilities from the time humans have existed.

Yes, qualities like humour, compassion, creativity, authenticity and courage are not just personal traits, but universal energies—like a vast, invisible Wi-Fi network that surrounds us all. Some people, through their unique wiring, their openness, awareness, and intention, are able to tune in to these frequencies more clearly. They become conduits for these qualities, expressing them in ways that touch others. They do not own these qualities but channel them and certainly amplify them. That is how they perhaps become legendary.

When someone lives a life rich in spirit, they don’t just draw from the field—they contribute to it. That is why, their actions, words, and presence enriches the collective human experience. What they leave behind is so strong that like the song they sang, it keeps playing in the hearts of those who heard it.

So when such a person passes on, it’s not that their spirit disappears. Instead, it returns to the energy field, the Wi-Fi network, now infused with their unique frequency and addition – their stories, their laughter, their songs, their words, their way of seeing the world.

Others can always connect to that signal, consciously or unconsciously, and be inspired by it and then enrich it.

CFI defines Coaching as a very personal, humanistic, result-oriented, potential enhancing developmental relationship, structured between an executive seeking to further their growth and a formally trained, skilled and empathetic coach.

Coaching aids leader development but is not therapy and is not intended to treat any form of mental illness.
